Frederick Treves House
Poundbury, Dorset 2004
The Poundbury Medical Centre, known as Frederick Treves House, was opened by HRH The Prince of Wales in April 2007.
The 25,000 square foot building houses some 40 GPs plus practice nurses, a pharmacy and dental clinic, and makes a major contribution to the health provision of Dorchester and the surrounding area.
The substantial building sits in a sensitive landscape area between the new development and the existing suburbs of Dorchester. In order to mitigate its bulk, the building was broken up into wings linked by two large glass atriums providing natural daylight and ventilation.
A simple arts and crafts language of rendered walls with stone details and slate roof was adopted to provide a quiet building that sits comfortably in its parkland setting.
