Poundbury SW Quadrant

Dorchester, Dorset 2006

The South West Quadrant will complete Phase 2 of Poundbury, the Duchy of Cornwall’s sustainable urban extension to Dorchester.

In 2006, Working Group was appointed as lead designer of the site, which will contain some 250 dwellings and a mix of other uses including office and retail space, a landmark restaurant building and an almshouse.

We assisted in the selection of three architects: Craig Hamilton, Jonathan Holland and George Saumarez Smith, with whom we worked collaboratively as a team, together with the Masterplanner Leon Krier, in drawing up designs for the site.

We steered through the application which was granted approval in 2007. Construction has started in 2009 and is expected to complete in 2012.
