Stanton

Stanton is a large brownfield site near Ilkeston. We were asked to join the Enquiry by Design held in 2008 to produce architectural proposals for the new sustainable mixed-used community.

We looked carefully at local building patterns and developed a series of house types for use by the landowner in bringing forward a detailed planning application for the site.

Principally red brick with slate, the houses range in size from small terraced houses to larger detached dwellings and canalside flats and draw their details from a large number of early 19th century buildings found in the surrounding area. In addition to designing house types we were asked to prepare sketches showing how the buildings might look within the context of the development.
